Electronic Fuel Injection to Debut at NASCAR's Historic Daytona 500 ...

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.?(BUSINESS WIRE)?The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) will make history on Sunday, Feb. 26 at the venerable Daytona 500 race when, for the first time in its 64-year history, the cars in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will race across the starting line using electronic fuel injection (EFI) made possible by Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE: FSL) and McLaren Electronic Systems.

?NASCAR?s transition to Sunoco Green E15 in 2011, coupled with our transition to EFI, will allow our engines to operate more efficiently and make the cars on the track more like the production cars fans drive every day.?

Freescale is providing the processors for McLaren?s engine control units (ECUs) that will be used to manage the fuel and ignition systems in the engines for all NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars, replacing the carburetors that date back to the start of the sport. NASCAR and its top series teams tested the technology during the 2011 season and the cars and drivers are now ready to race.

Electronic fuel injection is about delivering the right amount of fuel at the right time into the engine under a variety of operating conditions. It was originally introduced into automobiles to improve drivability, fuel consumption and emissions, and it is destined to have the same impact on stock car racing. The racing will be as exciting as ever, but the engines will be more efficient and more readily optimized for the different ovals and road courses upon which they run. As part of the switch to fuel injection, Freescale is designated as the ?Official Automotive Semiconductor of NASCAR? and McLaren is the ?Official Engine Control Unit of NASCAR.?

?We?re proud to have partnered with NASCAR and McLaren to bring about this historic change in Sprint Cup Series racing,? said Henri Richard, senior vice president and chief sales and marketing officer at Freescale Semiconductor. ?The Daytona 500, and every Cup race that follows, will become a symbol of the trust NASCAR has placed in Freescale and a testament to our innovation and technology leadership in motorsports and the broader automotive electronics industry.?

For decades, most of the parts and equipment on NASCAR race cars were highly customized for racing but still relevant in standard automobiles. The move to fuel injection brings back an important synergy between these two vehicle types. ECUs maximize each racing team?s ability to extract the most performance and best fuel economy under all race conditions.

As part of the move to EFI, every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race team will use a control system with Freescale?s advanced 32-bit Power Architecture? based engine management processors at its core. These same processors power millions of today?s most energy efficient engines. The ECUs are tamper-proof, helping to ensure that only approved software may be run during a race weekend. Additionally, NASCAR will have special electronic tools at its disposal during every event to help ensure the legality of all ECUs.

?With strong encouragement and support from the auto manufacturers and the engine builders, NASCAR partnered with world-leading technology companies Freescale and McLaren to help the sport seamlessly transition to EFI,? said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition. ?NASCAR?s transition to Sunoco Green E15 in 2011, coupled with our transition to EFI, will allow our engines to operate more efficiently and make the cars on the track more like the production cars fans drive every day.?

Since 1966, McLaren has a legacy of racing success in the United States, claiming victories 43 times during its tenure in the Can-Am Challenge, 10 times at the U.S. Grand Prix and three times at the illustrious Indianapolis 500.?In addition, McLaren Electronics Systems has been a component supplier to NASCAR teams since 2005 and also provides some of the ECUs that became available last year in the McLaren MP4-12C high-performance sports car. Freescale technology has been at the heart of McLaren?s engine control and data systems racing technology since 2000, and it provides the power behind all of McLaren?s major racing programs. Freescale is the largest U.S. based producer of automotive electronics, and its technology enables virtually all automotive innovation in use today, from advanced engine systems to navigation and active safety.

?We are thrilled to be part of the historic move to fuel injection in this most exciting of race series,? said Peter van Manen, managing director of McLaren Electronic Systems. ?It has been a pleasure working with NASCAR, the engine manufacturers, tuners and teams throughout 2011 and we are now ready to race. We have been supplying electronics to top flight motorsport for the last 20 years, in open wheel, sports car and rally car racing, but I can honestly say that the racing doesn?t get better than this. It is great that our long-term and trusted partner, Freescale, has been with us all the way to help make it happen.?

Palin aides lash out at HBO's 'Game Change'

(AP) ? Current and former aides to Sarah Palin lashed out Wednesday at HBO's "Game Change," describing the upcoming film's depictions of her on the 2008 campaign trail as "sick" and inaccurate.

None of the aides said they have yet seen the movie, which debuts March 10, and some said they had asked for an opportunity to screen the film but had been denied.

Trailers for the film, which is based on the bestselling book chronicling the 2008 presidential race, have been released, however, and some snippets appear to cast Palin in an unfavorable light. As portrayed by Julianne Moore, Palin is seen complaining about how she's being handled by political advisers and mumbling about missing her baby, who was born in April 2008. In one snippet, campaign strategist Steve Schmidt, portrayed by Woody Harrelson, describes her as being on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Aides said none of that jibes with their own experiences with the former Alaska governor, and they defended her vigorously Wednesday.

Jason Recher, who handled vice presidential road operations for the McCain-Palin campaign, called Palin "one of the most engaged public servants I'd ever observed." Tom Van Flein, her former personal attorney, called her diligent, sharp and enthusiastic about the campaign.

Meg Stapleton, a former spokeswoman, said that she, unlike some of the others who worked with Palin during the campaign, had not been contacted by anyone associated with either the book or movie.

"They don't want to hear anything good," she said, her voice full of passion. "We all know Palin sells and the dramatization of Palin sells even more. This is sick."

"They mock Gov. Palin, you mock Gov. Palin, as weak and unable to cope and press forward," she told reporters on the conference call. "And the movie and the trailer ... say that. And yet look with your own eyes at what she and her family have endured and inspired over the last few years. Any lesser man would have hanged himself by now. So who's weak?"

Recher noted that Palin wasn't the primary focus of the book, and he said he told screenwriter and co-executive producer Danny Strong that the book "absolutely, unequivocally" did not accurately reflect his time with the McCain campaign.

Filmmakers have said that they sought historical accuracy.

Director Jay Roach last month said he wrote a long letter to Palin seeking an interview with her to help the film, "but I got a very quick email back from her attorney saying, 'I checked, she declined.'"

Strong, in an email, acknowledged that members of Palin's camp asked to screen the film but said filmmakers responded that they would privately screen the movie for Palin and her husband. He said Sarah Palin declined the offer.

The film portrays Palin "in a balanced light," he said, "showing her strengths and weaknesses as the vice presidential candidate."

In addition to the book, Strong said the movie is also based on 25 interviews conducted with members of the campaign by himself and Roach. He said secondary sources include Sarah Palin's book "Going Rogue," other books written on the campaign and "innumerable" newspaper and magazine articles.

Palin did not participate in Wednesday's call. Tim Crawford, the treasurer of the political action committee SarahPAC, who facilitated the call, said Palin is on the record as considering the movie a false narrative, and wrote about her experiences in one of her books.

Physician Payment Sunshine: NAMEC Survey Predicts Job Losses ...

Unemployment
Last week, The National Association of Medical Education Companies, Inc. (NAMEC) recently submitted its comments regarding Section 6002 of the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA)?also known as the Physician Payment Sunshine Act.??

NAMEC is the trade organization representing U.S. medical education companies, as well as the clinical faculty, expert contributors, physicians, and allied healthcare professionals who participate in the many thousands of member-developed certified continuing medical education (CME) initiatives.? NAMEC?s mission is to promote best practices in CME that meet the many and detailed requirements set forth by accrediting organizations for the conduct of continuing education activities for physicians, as well as other healthcare professionals, with the goal of providing evidence-based education that improves patient care outcomes.?

In addition to their overall comments, NAMEC also conducted an online survey of their members in early February.? 54 Member Organizations responded. ?Respondents also provided data and quotes from surveys that they fielded to their faculty.? The survey asked questions related to the impact of the proposed Sunshine rules relative to CME providers and reporting of payments to CME faculty and educational materials.? The survey indicated that NAMEC members highly concerned about proposed rules:?

  • Reporting burdens and increases corresponding expenses (> 85% agree or strongly agree)
  • Loss of CME funding (76.5% of agree or strongly agree) and resultant loss of CME jobs in their organizations
  • Loss of expert faculty participating in CME activities funded by covered manufacturers
  • Loss of reputation /credibility of CME providers and of CME
  • Reduction in quality of CME and resulting negative impact on healthcare
  • Misrepresentation of how CME providers and faculty manage funding from covered manufacturers; inability to meet accrediting organization requirements if accept funding from covered manufacturers (>95% agree or strongly agree)?

Faculty are also highly concerned and share many of the concerns of CME providers:?

  • Misrepresentation of financial relationship between CME faculty and covered manufacturers
  • Decreased willingness to participate as CME faculty if proposed rules implemented
  • Limitations to participating in CME activities
  • Healthcare will be adversely impact if faculty educators reduce or eliminate participation in CME if proposed rules are implemented (78.8% of members)?

Almost all members responded that the proposed rules will have significant financial impact on their organizations, with approximately 47% estimating this cost to be at least $50,000 and escalating to >$150,000.??

Members responded that the proposed rules will result in reduced funding and, consequently, loss of jobs in their organizations and, possibly, resulting in their having to close their operations.? Members also strongly disagreed (80.9%) with CMS? proposal to associate CME payments to faculty with a specific drug.??

Members are very concerned about the negative impact the proposed rules? on their faculty: 72% indicated? that faculty will no longer participate in their activities that are funded any level of support from covered manufacturers if the proposed rules on CME payments recording and reporting are implemented as written.? In addition, almost 95% of members believed that if CME is classified as a direct payment that it will reduce the number of CME activities produced per year.?

Comments from NAMEC Members?

?Readers of CMS-collected data will make no distinction between the widely different worlds of accredited CME and FDA-enforced promotional education. Therefore, just as we've seen CME-dedicated faculty and researchers leave paid positions as speakers and members of boards, we will see them leave CME. The public will not understand the distinction between CME and promotion, particularly if CMS inaccurately or misleadingly portrays the data collected (whether by accident or not). ??When one considers the serious morbidity and mortality of many disease states addressed by accredited CME providers in learner activities, every month?s or year?s delay has potentially great effects on quality of life and patients? survival.??

?In my experience, faculty are participating in CME because they love to teach; they're not doing it for the money. Having their names associated with a supporter (with whom they may or may not have a bona fide relationship) when their real relationship is with the CME provider will not be worth the scrutiny and aggravation. I believe that many will simply elect not to participate.?

Retail sales are up 4.8 percent from last year

Retail sales in January increased 0.4 percent from December and 4.8 percent from last year. The data shows a rough correlation between home value appreciation and retail spending.?

Today, the U.S. Census Bureau released its latest nominal read of retail sales showing a 0.4% increase from December and an increase of 5.8% on a year-over-year basis on an aggregate of all items including food, fuel and healthcare services.
Nominal "discretionary" retail sales including home furnishings, home garden and building materials, consumer electronics and department store sales increased 0.47% from December and increased 4.86% above the level seen in January 2011 while, adjusting for inflation, ?real? discretionary retail sales increased 2.23% over the same period.

On a ?nominal? basis, there had appeared to be ?rough correlation? between strong home value appreciation and strong retail spending preceding the housing bust and an even stronger correlation when home values started to decline.
The following chart shows the year-over-year change to nominal discretionary retail sales and the year-over-year change to nominal the S&P/Case-Shiller Composite home price index since 1993 and since 2000.

As you can see there is, at the very least, a coincidental change to home values and consumer spending during the boom and then the bust, but as home values have continued to decline, retail spending has remained low but has not continued to consistently contract.
Looking at the chart below (click for full-screen dynamic version), adjusted for inflation (CPI for retail sales, CPI ?less shelter? for S&P/Case-Shiller Composite) the ?rough correlation? between the year-over-year change to the ?discretionary? retail sales series and the year-over-year S&P/Case-Shiller Composite series seems now even more significant.

5 Purposes of Teleseminars Being a Coaching Medium | Sites

Every now and then although I?m going to get yourself a problem from someone that just will not make many impression. It really is like they?ve got had missed the watercraft fully. Or they are not being attentive. Then again I have to point out to myself personally that in some cases it truly is dependent on not necessarily comprehending the good standby time with the text inside the problem.

Not long ago certainly one of my pupils expected just a real problem of me. We were looking at wondering the alternative techniques make use of a teleseminar as a coaching carrier.

The disadvantage in that problem of course is always that a teleseminar is not a carrier inside the regular feeling of the term. Or perhaps in the sense that had been supposed ? it was an operating payday loans not the beginning of a discussion of the several kinds of discovering supply.

Here I?ll answer the problem that had been supposed rather than the the one that was expected. So now are a few purposes for In .teleseminarsIn . as a coaching carrier.

1. Like a teleseminar. payday loan consolidation I?m not really becoming ironic. A teleseminar is often a spiel or class presented over the telephone ? commonly by using a conference meetings assistance of some sort or other. (I have done repeat the text were utilised inappropriate). So use a tele-conference as a coaching carrier by presenting a teleseminar. You will find, I was able to have explained by offering a class or group instruction. But it was more pleasurable!

2. Like a instruction call up. A teleseminar appropriately conversing is often a official training session with training response more than consolidate private student loans mobile phone. But frequently they?re a lot more spiel than class. A instruction call up is often a a lesser amount of official period concerning a lot more problem and answer or debate time. This is a real class or course. Even so, coming from a sensible standpoint a lot of instruction telephone calls turn into teleseminars in the event the inquiries avoid.

3. Like a do the job evaluation period. One of many methods of discovering supply is due diligence. Certainly, that loathed word ? however it comes with a goal. And so as to get the most from that purpose is simple needed to look at the do the job conducted. The result is akin to a instruction call up but is a lot more aimed at questions and less on chats.

4. A tele-conference (that?s that which we are really speaking about) bring a handyroom below selected conditions. Most of the time advertised . does not work nicely with the purpose. Why? Just because a tele-conference is surely an mp3 only advertising. As a result it is difficult to demonstrate folks what they?re most likely to do. It?s also hard to execute a go walking-close to and view that no troubles are becoming experienced. Even so, regarding delicate ability and debate structured do the job it is easy to do a tele-handyroom.

5. As being the mp3 keep track of for any web conferencing or video clip. It becomes an case in point just for the health of retirement in another direction. A teleseminar or tele-conference is surely an mp3 solution. By documenting it you can use it because the platform for several unique products. One particular probable products will be as a web conferencing or video clip the place that the documenting may be the mp3 keep track of.

David Valdes Greenwood: You Can't Un-Hurry Love: When Crushes Start Early

My daughter calmly informed me that she'd broken up with her boyfriend Miles. I asked how Miles had taken the news, and she shrugged, "I didn't tell him Papa; I just did it." This is all fine, of course, because he didn't know they were dating to begin with. And his replacement doesn't know either. Niceties like awareness and agreement aren't really important to my daughter -- she is only six, after all.

Too young to understand what dating really means, she doesn't get all tangled up in her feelings. Like many children her age, she is smitten with the idea of romance and she's heard about crushes in a million places, from Disney princesses (her old role models) to Supah Ninjahs (her current obsession). Her pre-crush, as I'll call it, is like a real crush in just one way: it's all in her mind. It has no wounding link to her self-esteem and it can't invite rejection, seeing as the subject remains clueless. As a write for the New York Times put it, "The essence of a crush is that the relationship is fantasy. Children control both halves within their imaginations. They are safe. There are no consequences to their actions."

So Miles is out of the picture, while Cole, her very first crush, is back at the top of the list again, despite having moved to Paris, where he eats fromage and remains blissfully untroubled by l'amour. This distance notwithstanding, she is adamant that she has a boyfriend, an attitude which alternately amuses and terrifies her dads. There is a part of us that just can't understand why she has to be obsessed with boys already. Must we do a dry run for her teen years?

Actually, she's right in the ballpark age-wise for having an infatuation with infatuation. My first crush and my first kiss were in the same year, 1973 -- and, guess what? I was six, too. I wanted to try kissing because I kept seeing people kiss on soap operas and even after-school specials, so I talked a neighbor boy into doing pretend play that ended with us running to each other in slow motion, them smooching when we met. The kiss itself didn't live up to billing, in part because the slow motion did not look like it did on TV, and there was no music playing, which killed the mood.

The first crush was a different boy, a schoolmate who absolutely did not know, but of whom I drew adorable pictures. All of six years old, I envisioned myself someday growing up and getting married to this kid. That didn't pan out, of course: both the neighbor boy and the schoolmate grew up to be straight dudes, while I alone grew up to be a gay guy. Neither the kiss nor the crush were in themselves meaningful.

But here's the thing: both of those moments correctly foretold my future. The people I would later want to kiss would always be male. The fact that I would want to replicate the most schmaltzy TV kisses I'd seen also reflects the person I would become: a sappy romantic, occasionally given to a touch (dare I admit it?) of the melodramatic.

So while I can't read too much into my daughter's insistence that she has to have a boyfriend, I know that I am getting a first glimpse of the future that will unfold for her and for us as her parents. Our job now is to raise her with healthy messages about how to handle her feelings, needs, and (God help us) desires. When the theory becomes practice, hopefully we'll have helped nurture enough self-esteem that real crushes won't be cripplingly painful. And let's face it: the only thing that will be harder than watching our baby enter the world of romance is seeing it hurt, as sometimes it surely will.

I feel a little a bad for the boys in her future, what with the two dads who will be staring them down. We like to joke that we're going to move to a mountain compound with a perimeter fence: boys will be welcome to visit, but only after they fill out the paperwork in the guard house and survive the dual interview. I'm not quite suggesting we'd build Rapunzel's tower, but I admit to understanding the impulse.

Now, around Valentine's Day, I'm sure she'll have plenty more to say about her imaginary love life and that's fine by me. She can have all the boyfriends she wants -- I'll just be happiest if none of them ever find out.

Health Minister Franklin Vergara says the ex-strongman was returned to the custody of Public Security Ministry officials Thursday.

The 77-year-old Noriega was taken to a hospital Sunday after suffering what appeared to be ill effects of hypertension.

Noriega was toppled by a 1989 U.S. invasion and served 17 years in a U.S. prison for drug trafficking. He was later convicted in France of money laundering.

Clippers' Billups goes down with Achilles injury, Anthony hurt (Reuters)

(Reuters) ? Los Angeles Clippers guard Chauncey Billups was helped off the court after injuring his left Achilles during his team's overtime victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday.

Billups took an awkward step with no one around him and immediately fell to the floor midway through the fourth quarter.

The Clippers, off to a 15-7 start and the lead in the Pacific Division, will send the guard for a scan on Tuesday.

"I'm hoping it's not that bad," Clippers point guard Chris Paul told reporters. "We know we have to lift up the team and pick up what we'll miss without him being on the court."

In the Eastern Conference, New York forward Carmelo Anthony also had to exit early after suffering a right groin injury.

Anthony, voted a starter for this month's All Star game, hurt his right groin while throwing an alley-oop during the first quarter and hobbled off the court. The Knicks beat Utah 99-88.

The team is calling the injury a strain and said Anthony is day-to-day and will be re-evaluated on Tuesday.

The Knicks are already without forward Amar'e Stoudemire, who is on an indefinite leave of absence after the death of his brother.

Whole-genome sequencing of 2011 E. coli outbreaks in Europe provides new insight

Whole-genome sequencing of 2011 E. coli outbreaks in Europe provides new insight [ Back to EurekAlert! ] Public release date: 6-Feb-2012

Boston, MA Using whole-genome sequencing, a team led by researchers from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and the Broad Institute has traced the path of the E. coli outbreak that sickened thousands and killed over 50 people in Germany in summer 2011 and also caused a smaller outbreak in France. It is one of the first uses of genome sequencing to study the dynamics of a food-borne outbreak and provides further evidence that genomic tools can be used to investigate future outbreaks and provide greater insight into the emergence and spread of infectious diseases.

The study, conducted in collaboration with groups at the Pasteur Institute in France, Assistance Publique-Hpitaux de Paris, and Statens Serum Institut in Denmark, appears on February 6, 2012 in an advance online edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

"A genome contains the record of a strain's evolutionary history, so by looking at the differences between the genomes of multiple bacteria from an outbreak we can get really useful clues about what happened in the outbreak. In this way, tracking outbreaks is like detective work, and this approach will be a powerful tool in trying to understand future outbreaks," said lead author Yonatan Grad, a research fellow in the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics, Department of Epidemiology at HSPH and infectious disease physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

"This work is a testament to the power of genome sequencing and analysis to shed light on the mechanisms that drive disease outbreaks," said co-senior author Deborah Hung, a core faculty member at the Broad Institute, an assistant professor at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and an infectious disease physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital. "We can see things that we simply couldn't see before, and that holds promise for improving public health."

The outbreak in Germany, which was caused by the strain E. coli O104:H4, led to around 4,000 cases of bloody diarrhea, 850 cases of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which can lead to kidney failure, and over 50 deaths. The source of the outbreak was traced to sprouts from an organic farm in Germany. In France, where 15 people were sickened with bloody diarrhea that progressed to HUS in nine people, the source of the outbreak was sprouts, germinated from seeds purchased at a garden retailer, that were served at a children's community center buffet. European investigators, using traditional epidemiological methods, traced the outbreaks to a shipment of seeds from Egypt that arrived in Germany in December 2009.

The researchers, led by Grad and senior authors Hung and William Hanage, associate professor of epidemiology at HSPH, analyzed isolates of E. coli bacteria from both the German and French outbreaks. Based on conventional molecular epidemiological analysis, the E. coli strains from the outbreaks in Germany and France appear identical.

However, by harnessing the Broad's expertise in whole-genome sequencing and analysis, the researchers were able to determine that there were small, but measurable, differences among the isolates. They made two surprising findings: All the strains connected to the larger German outbreak were found to be nearly identical, while the strains in France showed greater diversity; and the German isolates appeared to be a subset of the diversity seen in the French isolates.

"If genomes have fewer differences than we expect, like the German outbreak, it suggests that the outbreak might have passed through a bottleneck. A bottleneck might be something like disinfection procedures that killed most but not all of the bugs, or maybe passage through a single infected individual," said Hanage.

Another hypothesis offered by the researchers is that there was uneven distribution of diversity in the original shipment of contaminated seeds.

As costs for genomic sequencing decline, these tools, combined with traditional epidemiological techniques, can provide greater insight into the emergence and spread of infectious diseases and will help guide preventive public health measures in the future.

Daily Kos: Komengate - THIS is the face of Breast Cancer

This will be another short diary. ?If this has been shared on Kos in another diary already, I'll delete my diary. ?

One silver lining in all of this is that, for many of us, the true Susan G. Komen (SGK) organization has been laid bare. It's ideology, theology (who knew), and the agenda of those who now steer the future of this organization. ?(Ari Fleischer, are you kidding me?)

Another silver lining is that Planned Parenthood (PP) has been thrust into the national spotlight, and the national dialogue. ?Millions of men and women, from all walks of religion, political beliefs and personal ideologies, came together and raised millions of dollars for Planned Parenthood. ?What has also been revealed is that Planned Parenthood is NOT, and never was, an "abortion factory." ?Now, right wing fundies will always believe what they want, even when those beliefs have no basis in reality or fact. ?But many other people learned a lot of things this week, important things - about what SGK is not and what PP is, who they are, what they do, and how many millions of women rely on their services to provide the most basic of healthcare. ?

So as I always try to believe, there is ALWAYS a silver lining...

This is the face of breast cancer. ?It is the best, frankest and most honest response to Komen that I've seen in the many days since Komengate exploded. ?This woman is unbelievably brave. She honest and frank, and she truly exposes what breast cancer is. ?She also exposes what breast cancer is NOT.

The video is graphic. ?After many years on Kos, I STILL don't know how to embed video/pictures, so here's the link to one of the best responses I've ever seen to Komengate.

I'd love for this video to go viral. ?I'm posting on Facebook. I'm tweeting it. I first saw it because of today's Crooks and Liars email. ?

If you are so inclined, please pass it on.

On a personal note, I am now a monthly contributor to Planned Parenthood. I should ?have done this before, but it is better late than never. ?I, like many, just never realized the depth of services that PP provides, nor the extent to which so many women rely on them. ?I am fortune. Millions of women are not. ?I owe it to them to pay it forward ...

(I will be out all afternoon so if I need to take this diary down after all, it won't be until much later.)

The basis of this family game idea is to get to know what each family member?s favorite things are. That way it?s not just a game, but an opportunity to get to know each person on a deeper level. Of course you can always watch children?s and family entertainment movies but games are so much more interactive.

This is how you play:

One of the family members will think of his or her favorite item. ( At the end of this post I have a list of favorite ideas that can be asked.) Players take turns asking questions to that family member and he or she can only answer yes or no to the questions. Each time a player asks a question he or she also gets to guess what the favorite thing is. If the person asking the question doesn?t guess right thing, anyone else can guess the favorite thing. Everyone takes turns asking the questions. You can also have a talking stick that can be passed around the circle to indicate who is now asking the question. The first person that guesses the favorite thing correctly wins a token. At the end of the game, the person with the most tokens wins.

Another Variance of this Game

You can play win lose or draw with it. To play this way there should be a stack of cards with the favorite thing written on each one. The first person that will to draw picks out a ?favorite card?, reads what is asked to the group, and starts drawing on a white board (or large sheet of paper) what their favorite thing is. All of the other players gather around and shout out their guesses while the person is drawing. The first person that guesses correctly wins a point and gets to keep a token to keep track of how many correct guesses he or she had. The person drawing picks out the next card. Each player gets to pick out 3 or 4 cards (depending on the amount of players). In the end, the person with the most correct guesses, wins a prize. If you go through 20 of the following questions, this game will last about an hour. You don?t have to use all of the questions and if someone feels the questioon is too hard, they can choose another one. It?s more about everyone having a fun time.
