OKLAHOMA CITY ? WWE Main Event was chock full of intense action as Sheamus and Cody Rhodes battled in a rematch from three weeks ago and Justin Gabriel tried to match his agility and speed to Mark Henry?s raw strength.

Sheamus def. Cody Rhodes (PHOTOS | WATCH)

Three weeks ago on WWE Main Event, Cody Rhodes held the show hostage as he demanded placement in the Elimination Chamber Match before his battle with The Celtic Warrior. Sheamus narrowly defeated Rhodes, but their paths crossed on ION Television once again as Rhodes and ?The Lovestache? tried to woo Divas Champion Kaitlyn earlier in the day. The second generation Superstar?s advances were quickly interrupted by Sheamus and the two Superstars traded insults about their respective facial hair. As a result, Rhodes challenged The Celtic Warrior to a match, both seeking vengeance for their last contest and also trying to impress the Divas Champion.

As the battle got underway, Rhodes attempted a more conservative approach to his powerful opponent, trying to use his technical abilities to keep Sheamus on the defensive. Alas, the raw power of the Irish-born Superstar undoubtedly played to his advantage as he tossed Rhodes around ? seemingly with ease ? only enraging the mustachioed Superstar and forcing him to recalibrate outside the ring.

Back inside the squared circle, Rhodes once again was unable to gain any momentum as every attempt at an offensive strike was met by a counter from his opponent. Spilling to the outside, both Superstars countered effectively until a disaster kick knocking Sheamus off the ring apron finally gave the son of WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes an opening to work with.

Finally enjoying an advantage in the match, Rhodes attacked aggressively, keeping the three-time World Champion?s powerful arsenal in check. Displaying his impressive in-ring abilities, the former Intercontinental Champion balanced a technical approach to keep Sheamus grounded with impactful strikes and his natural agility. Although he had control of the match, Rhodes could not resist taunting his opponent and Sheamus found an opening to fight his way back into the match.

With the WWE Universe rising to their feet in support of the Irish-born Superstar, Sheamus siphoned that energy into a second wind and leveled the playing field. Proving his own resilience, Rhodes fought back and the intensity of both competitors led to a back and forth exchange. Finally, after a wild succession of countering signature maneuvers from both ring warriors, The Celtic Warrior found the perfect opportunity to execute the Brogue Kick to secure the victory.

McCain and Graham press Obama on border

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham pressed President Barack Obama on the importance of border security at a rare White House meeting Tuesday and came away praising the president's commitment to overhauling the nation's immigration laws.

"I believe that the president is very committed to comprehensive immigration reform," McCain, R-Ariz., told reporters afterward. "Now does that mean he's committed to anything we do? No, he has his positions on the issue as well, but I believe he is sincerely desirous of comprehensive immigration reform."

The praise from McCain and Graham, two leaders of a bipartisan Senate group developing comprehensive immigration legislation, came even though some other Republicans say Obama just wants to pursue immigration as a political issue to get Latino support and isn't truly committed to a bill.

The pair met with Obama as the White House continued to work to repair damage from a leak earlier this month of draft immigration legislation Obama was preparing, which he's said he'll make public only if the Senate working group on immigration doesn't move quickly enough. McCain said after the leak that it raised questions about Obama's commitment to the issue, and he also criticized the president for failing to communicate with Republicans on immigration.

Tuesday's meeting appeared successful in repairing relations. The White House had no immediate comment on the meeting.

"I think we'll have presidential leadership in a very productive way on immigration reform and with that we've got a very good chance of doing it this year," said Graham, R-S.C.

Both Obama's draft bill and the legislation emerging in the Senate would secure the border, improve legal immigration, crack down on employers and provide a pathway to citizenship to the 11 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S. An important difference is that the Senate bill would mandate a secure border before a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants could begin, a linkage Obama hasn't embraced.

The senators discussed border security with Obama and said they were encouraged by what they heard, though it was unclear if they'd extracted any commitments.

"He understands we need border security that we can afford and Sen. McCain made a strong point about the border, and the president understands the working components of it, so I was, quite frankly, encouraged," Graham said.

McCain, who often speaks of problems along the border in his home state of Arizona, said he was "more confident after our conversation today" that Obama understands those issues.

Telus to buy MD Practice Software | FP Tech Desk | Financial Post

MONTREAL ? A division of telecom giant Telus (TSX:T) is buying Ontario?s largest electronic medical record business, increasing the number of paperless files and bringing more than 5,000 more doctors online.

Telus Health says it?s acquiring MD Practice Software, part of a subsidiary of the Canadian Medical Association, for an undisclosed price.

It says the move will bring the total number of doctors who use electronic medical records technology to 9,000 across the country.

Currently, the penetration rate of electronic medical records in Canada sits at roughly 56%, compared with a rate of well over 90% in some European countries, according to Telus Health president Paul Lepage.

He adds that the market potential for electronic records in Canada is at least $150-million to $250-million, plus other services such as wireless.

Lepage says the technology will help doctors see more patients daily and be able to e-prescribe treatment.

?The first thing the doctor is going to be doing is he?ll be converting his paper records to electronic records,? Lepage said in an interview.

?From a physician perspective, what that means is the ability to see more patients during the day. So they will get a productivity gain out of that.?

Over time, doctors will be able to share that information, with consent, with other health-care providers. Patients can give their doctors regular updates through a patient portal on chronic diseases, for example, such as diabetes, Lepage said.

Lepage noted that about 80% of doctors now use a smartphone and more and more interaction with patients will be done on the device, and on tablets.

He said electronic health records help patients take charge and is ?no different than what you?re doing as a consumer where you?re doing your home banking, your booking travel online and? doing your income taxes online.?

Telus Health said the acquisition makes it the largest electronic medical records provider in Canada with physicians online in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and some smaller markets.

Doctors pay $3,000 to $5,000 for the electronic medical records software and some of it is reimbursed to them through provincial subsidies, Lepage said.

?We are proud of the support we have provided physicians and our involvement in the evolution of EMR (electronic medical records) platforms, assisting in fundamentally changing the nature of health care,? said Mike Gassewitz, president of MD Practice Software.

This is the third such acquisition of an electronic medical records provider by Telus in recent months.

Last fall, Telus bought KinLogix and Wolf Medical Systems, which combined, brought 4,500 doctors online.

Telus has been using its technology in health care for a number of years and created Telus Health after it bought the former Emergis, a Montreal-based e-commerce and technology company that was an early pioneer in electronic health records.

The Vancouver-based telecom company says its secure wireless and broadband networks can be accessed by doctors and patients on personal computers, smartphones or tablets. Currently it provides and supports electronic health record solutions in nearly 60 hospitals and 3,000 pharmacies across the country.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas strained to tamp down tensions in the West Bank as Palestinians protested by the thousands and called for a third intifada, and militants in Gaza broke a November cease-fire by firing a rocket into southern Israel.

"The Israelis want chaos.... We will not allow them to drag us into it and to mess with the lives of our children and our youth," Mr. Abbas said, according to Reuters, as he sought to cool tensions and?cast the uptick in Palestinian anger as a result of Israeli incitement.

But Abbas is up against formidable voices who seem to see another uprising as the inevitable result of days of large-scale protests across the West Bank against conditions for Palestinian inmates in Israeli prisons, sparked by the Feb. 23 death of one such inmate.

?This is the new intifada,? said Mustafa Barghouti, a rival to Abbas in the 2005 presidential election, according to Bloomberg. ?A popular resistance has started.? Calls for a third intifada come despite the fact that public sentiment still largely opposes a full uprising.?

The Christian Science Monitor reported yesterday that the most recent protests come on top of frustration about the seemingly endless Israeli occupation and settlement growth, as well as Israeli and international inaction.

?The issue of the prisoners is only one point that created this eruption,? said Sheikh Issa Jaradat, the former mayor of Sair, at the funeral for deceased prisoner Arafat Jaradat. People filled every rooftop, balcony, and open patch of grass surrounding the village square as Jaradat?s coffin was carried through the crowd, sparking fierce whistling and a few gunshots.

?The fact that so many people are here shows that this is not just about the suffering of Sair. The whole West Bank is suffering,? says the sheikh. ?This could easily be the beginning of an intifada.?

But, as the Monitor reports, only 32 percent of Palestinians support a third intifada, according to a poll taken before the death of Arafat Jaradat, the Palestinian inmate. Sixty-five percent oppose it, with 41 percent of them saying it will hurt the Palestinian cause.

Indeed, such an uprising could work against Palestinian interests in several ways. It could bolster Israel?s argument that it has no partner for peace, enabling it to continue expanding settlements in the West Bank unfettered by negotiations. It could also provide Israeli justification for maintaining or increasing checkpoints, arrests, and administrative detention in the name of security.

Reuters reports that international leaders had hoped the unrest in the West Bank was dying down prior to the rocket attack from Gaza, for which the militant group Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility. The news agency described the attack as ?an apparent show of solidarity? with the protests. It was the first such attack since a cease-fire was signed in November to end eight days of Palestinian rocket fire and Israeli air strikes.

The Wall Street Journal reports that ?Israel is taking the unrest seriously,? with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu holding ?security consultations? yesterday and sending a representative to Ramallah to urge the Palestinian Authority (PA) to calm the protesters.

Mark Regev, a spokesman for Mr. Netanyahu, pinned blame for the protests, some of which turned violent, on PA officials, the Journal reports. "There were elements within the [Palestinian Authority] who were actually encouraging incitement and violence," Mr. Regev said. "The Palestinian Authority has an obligation to maintain law and order."

And Amos Gilad, an Israeli defense official, told Army Radio that ?It looks as if the Palestinian Authority is trying to walk a delicate tightrope: both raising unrest and displays of violence and not wanting the matter to spin out of control,? the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Asian stocks mostly up on Fed's low rates support

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) ? Asian stock markets mostly rose Wednesday after the Federal Reserve chief played down risks from the U.S. central bank's low interest rate policies, offsetting worries that Italy's indecisive election result will rekindle Europe's debt crisis.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng advanced 0.4 percent to 22,605.62 and South Korea's Kospi added 0.4 percent to 2,007.94. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.6 percent to 5,033.80. Shares in mainland China, Taiwan and Indonesia also rose.

Japanese stocks were the only losers in Asia as the yen strengthened against the U.S. dollar following several months of weakness that boosted exporters. Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 0.5 percent to 11,345.54.

In testimony to Congress on Tuesday, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke expressed confidence that the central bank's low-rate policies currently pose little risk of causing runaway inflation or a stock market bubble. That eased recent jitters the Fed would start to withdraw its super easy monetary policy.

U.S. economic indicators also gave Asian markets a lift. Home sales rose to the highest level in more than four years last month and American consumers showed confidence for the first time in three months in February.

"Asian markets held up well after U.S. stock markets showed little impact to Italy's election results," said Kwak Joong-bo, a Seoul-based analyst at Samsung Securities.

Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest maker of memory chips, televisions and mobile phones, rose 0.7 percent while Hyundai Motor Co. climbed 0.9 percent. Taiwan-based phone maker HTC Corp. also added 1.3 percent.

Yet stock market gains in Asia remained modest, showing that investors have not fully regained their appetite for risky assets ahead of looming automatic spending cuts due to start Friday in the U.S.

And with Italy emerging from elections on Tuesday with no clear winner, there are lingering uncertainties about the fate of deficit and debt reduction measures in one of Europe's biggest economies.

The Italian election result drove markets in Europe markedly lower. If Italian parties fail to form a governing coalition, new elections would be required, causing more uncertainty and a leadership vacuum.

On Tuesday, Italy's FTSE MIB index fell nearly 800 points, or 5 percent, to 15,552. Germany's DAX was down 176 points, or 2.3 percent, to 7,597 and the CAC-40 in France fell 99 points, or 2.7 percent, to 3,621.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 115.96 points, or 0.8 percent, to 13,900.13 on Tuesday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 9.09 points, or 0.6 percent, to 1,496.94. The Nasdaq composite index rose 13.40 points, or 0.4 percent, to 3,129.65.

In currency markets, the euro was little changed at $1.3061. The dollar weakened 0.4 percent to 91.88 yen.

Benchmark crude for April delivery was up 4 cents to $92.67 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Strong start on Wall Street; Home Depot leads Dow

NEW YORK (AP) ? Strong earnings reports from Home Depot and Macy's helped lift stock indexes in early trading on Wall Street Tuesday. A jump in home sales and consumer confidence also brought buyers back to the market.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 77 points, or 0.6 percent, at 13,858 as of 10:22 a.m. The Dow fell 216 points the day before, its biggest drop in three months, after closely contested elections in Italy suggested the country might be headed for political gridlock, which could undermine the euro.

Other indexes also rose, but not as much as the Dow. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up three points, or 0.2 percent, at 1,490. The Nasdaq composite rose one point, or 0.04 percent, to 3,118.

Home Depot, the biggest home improvement store chain in the country, jumped $3.27, or 5 percent, to $67.19 after reporting that its income rose 32 percent in the latest quarter thanks to strong U.S. sales and the cleanup that followed Superstorm Sandy. Macy's results also beat analysts' forecasts, and its stock rose $1.43, or 3.7 percent, to $39.95.

Two strong economic reports also encouraged investors. The government reported that sales of new homes jumped 16 percent last month to the highest level since July 2008, the latest sign that the housing recovery is accelerating. Also, a measure of consumer confidence rose sharply, reversing three months of declines, as shoppers began adjusting to a payroll tax hike last month.

Investors will also be watching testimony by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, who heads to Capitol Hill to explain what the Fed will do to accelerate the economic recovery. Bernanke is sure to face questions about the Fed's bond-buying program, which has been used to keep the economy flush with cash and interest rates low. Stocks fell sharply over two days last week after minutes from the Fed's last policy meeting revealed disagreement among the bank's policymakers over how long to continue the program.

European markets fell as investors worried about Italy's political situation. Results late Monday showed strong gains by a protest campaign led by a former comedian and the camp of former premier Silvio Berlusconi, both of whom oppose belt-tightening measures put forth by the previous government of Mario Monti.

If Italy slows down or abandons its austerity program it could undermine investors' confidence in the country's ability to get its economy going again and revive worries over the viability of the region's shared currency, the euro.

Italy's main stock index dropped 3.8 percent Tuesday. The yield on Italy's benchmark government bond rose sharply, to 4.76 percent from 4.43 percent, as investors sold them. That's still far below the 7 percent the yield traded at in January 2012, when confidence in Italy's finances was far lower. The euro was little changed against the dollar.

Other European indexes also fell, but not as much. Stocks fell 1.6 percent in Germany, 1.8 percent in France, and 1.1 percent in Britain.

In U.S. government bond trading, the yield on the 10-year Treasury note edged up to 1.87 percent from 1.86 percent late Monday.

Winterfest a Time to Skate, Sculpt | BU Today | Boston University

In the slideshow above, view photos from Winterfest 2013.

Alums Marissa and Jesse Keppley were ardent BU hockey fans as undergraduates, attending all Terrier home games?even naming their son Colin Parker, after longtime men?s hockey head coach Jack Parker (SMG?68, Hon.?97).

But the Florida natives have never had much ice time themselves. That changed at Winterfest, held this past weekend on the Charles River Campus. On Saturday, Marissa (CAS?09), Jesse (CAS?08, GRS?12), and three-year-old Colin laced up for a turn around the outdoor ice rink set up on Marsh Plaza. ?We were excited about skating,? Marissa Keppley said. ?Marsh is my favorite place on campus. I used to study behind it when the weather was nice.?

Sponsored by the BU Alumni Association, Winterfest was scheduled for February 8 to 10, but was postponed in anticipation of the blizzard that dumped two feet on the region and closed the University. All but one of the activities were rescheduled for this weekend, which drew approximately 800 alumni and other guests to campus. The exception, a cooking demonstration, will take place on Saturday, March 16.

The outdoor skating rink was a first for Winterfest, now in its eighth year. Sandy Miller of Watertown learned to skate as a child, but she eyed the artificial ice skeptically. ?I put my insurance card in here just in case,? said Miller, patting her coat pocket, ?as a good luck charm.? Miller (GSM?77, SED?07) had been to the men?s ice hockey game on Friday night (the Terriers fell to UMass Lowell, 3-0) and attends other BU events now and then throughout the year. ?I got a good education here,? she said. ?It?s close by, and there?s fun stuff to do.?

On Saturday, Marsh Plaza was swirling with activity. As alumni and their families and guests glided?or in many cases, picked?their way across the ice, others lined up to have their photos taken in a giant inflatable snow globe (500 filed through during the day) after sipping cocoa and eating doughnuts.

Eight teams competed in the ice-sculpting competition. They started by sketching on tracing paper in a College of Arts & Science classroom. First-time participants Xuemei Zhong and her seven-year-old daughter, Danielle Gao, were collaborating on a drawing of the Earth, with a dove and a puppy (Danielle?s idea) at the top and the words ?Peace on Earth? at the bottom. ?An adventure,? said Zhong (MED?02), as she surveyed their progress.

Outside on the plaza, the teams chiseled, chipped, and scraped large blocks of ice into a dragon, a polar bear, and R2-D2. The winners: Derrick Kwan (CAS?14) and Meera Ganesan (CAS?13), for their sculpture, ?Baby Patrick,? based on the starfish in SpongeBob SquarePants. The two hadn?t planned on participating, but they were on their way to study at Mugar when they stopped by for hot chocolate. ?We saw free stuff,? Kwan said.

Elsewhere, alums and their families tested their skills on the rock-climbing wall at the Fitness & Recreation Center?Ellen Mak (MET?99) snapped pictures of her children, Audrey 11, and Andrew, 8, as they ascended?and worked off the doughnuts at a zumba class.

On Friday evening, teams made up of students and alumni faced off in the second annual broomball tournament. The championship match took place after the men?s hockey game, and for the second year, an alumni team came out on top?3-0. The women?s hockey Terriers had similar success on Saturday, coming from behind to beat Connecticut 7-5 at Walter Brown Arena.

Marc DeCastro of Maynard, his wife, Wanda, and their two children made their way to Winterfest for the first time this year. Noah, 10, was interested in the arts and cultural activities, and 13-year-old Nicholas was curious about college life and ?the campus Daddy used to hang out on,? said DeCastro (SMG?90), as he watched the boys skate on Saturday. The family also had tickets to see the women?s hockey game.

The one thing DeCastro wasn?t about to do: join his sons on the ice. ?I like my ankles too much today.?

'Unjust!' Poet shouts down court after getting 15 years for verse

DOHA, Qatar (AP) ? A poet jailed for a verse considered offensive to Qatar's ruler harshly denounced the Gulf nation's legal proceedings on Monday after an appeals court reduced his life sentence but still kept a 15-year prison term.

The rant in court ? rare in the tightly controlled Gulf Arab states ? underscored the free speech battles across the region as Western-backed authorities take strict measures against perceived political dissident in the wake of the Arab Spring.

From Kuwait to Oman, dozens of people have been arrested in the past year for social media posts deemed insulting to leaders or calling for political forms.

"Unjust," shouted poet Muhammad ibn al-Dheeb al-Ajami in the heavily guarded courtroom in Qatar's capita, Doha, after his appeal to drop the conviction was denied. The court, however, cut the life sentence handed down in November and imposed a 15-year term.

Al-Ajami faced specific charges from a poem posted online in 2010 that discussed the traits needed for a good leader ? which apparently was seen by authorities as a challenge to Qatar's emir and the ruling family.

But he also was more widely known for an Internet video of him reciting "Tunisian Jasmine," a poem lauding that country's popular uprising, which touched off the Arab Spring rebellions across the Middle East. In the poem, he said, "we are all Tunisia in the face of repressive" authorities and criticized Arab governments that restrict freedoms, calling them "thieves."

Al-Ajami still can appeal to a higher court.

"This sentence will not stand," said his brother Hasan. "When you strip away everything, this is just a case about power and pressure."

Earlier this month, a Kuwait court sentenced three former opposition lawmakers to three years hard labor for insulting the country's ruler during speeches made at political rallies. In January, a Kuwait blogger and online journalists received two-year sentences in back-to-back convictions for posts deemed "insulting" to the emir.

In November, the United Arab Emirates set stricter Internet monitoring and enforcement codes. They include giving authorities wider leeway to arrest Web activists for offenses such as mocking the country's leadership or calling for demonstrations.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2

The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 combines touch, all-day battery life, and ThinkPad styling to the Windows 8 Slate tablet market. It's not a bad first effort, but rivals currently have the upper hand. It can be your all-day companion running from meeting to meeting, and you can get work done with the help of accessories when you finally get back to your desk. Taken alone, it's a very good tablet. Unfortunately, other rivals have better battery life, connections to keyboards, and overall differentiating features.

Design and Features
The Tablet 2 looks professional, with a black PolyCarbonate/ABS plastic cover over a magnesium internal frame. The tablet measures about 7 by 10.5 by 0.34 inches (HWD) and weighs a scant 1.21 pounds alone. Add the optional Bluetooth keyboard ($120) and fitted sleeve ($40), and you're talking a 2.63-pound travel weight. One plus that the Tablet 2 has over its rivals is its built-in slot to carry its included stylus. The Wacom-style stylus has a right-click button, but lacks the eraser tip that rivals like the Dell Latitude 10 and Microsoft Surface Pro have. Weighing less than 1.25 pounds and with its built-in stylus holder, it is a very good handheld PC for running around the office park or for a full day of client meetings.

The Tablet 2 has a few ports and switches on its sides: a micro-USB port for charging, a low-power USB 2.0 port, MicroSD and a SIM slot under a shared door, headset jack, volume, power, rotate lock, a docking port, and a mini-HDMI out port. The SIM slot supplies authentication to an optional WWAN radio, which wasn't in our review unit. The docking connector is mainly for the $100 enterprise-level docking station, since the Bluetooth keyboard and stand lacks a docking port.

The Bluetooth keyboard is very comfortable and has a built-in optical TrackPoint and the usual ThinkPad mouse buttons. But there is no room for a palm rest, and the keyboard has no retention mechanism aside from gravity and friction from the slot carved in its surface. This means that the keyboard stand works fine on a tabletop, but if you use the combo on your lap, the Tablet 2 is likely to slide out if you shift your weight during you work session. Both the keyboard and Tablet 2 fit in a tailor-made fitted sleeve, so the combo can work part-time. The Bluetooth keyboard has its own battery for operation, but it doesn't supply auxiliary power like the keyboard docks for the HP Envy X2 or Acer Iconia W510-1422.

The Tablet 2 charges off of its micro-USB port, which is a plus for the road warrior. Most non-iPhone smartphones use micro-USB to charge, so you can get by only carrying a single charger. The Tablet 2 comes with a 2A USB adapter and a USB to micro USB cable, which you can use with your smartphone or tablet. This also makes it more convenient for the multi-device user, since he can charge the Tablet 2 off of a PC with the USB cable as well. Lenovo also sells a $20 USB vehicle charger so you can charge your tablet on the road.

The Tablet 2's regular USB 2.0 port is problematic. It is full-size, so it will work with all sorts of peripherals like printers, keyboards/mice, and USB memory keys. But the USB port only supplies a few watts of power, so it won't run a large-capacity external hard drive. This shortcoming is a large detriment to getting work done if all you have with you are bus-powered external hard drives. The Dell Latitude 10 and most ultrabook-class tablets have full-power USB ports. The Tablet 2 can connect to 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 is supported. GPS is included.

The Tablet 2's screen is a 10.1-inch IPS display with a 1,366-by-768 resolution. This means that you can playback 720p HD content natively, but 1080p content will be scaled down. The system's Wacom-style digitizer and stylus back up the five-point touch screen. When the tip of the stylus comes close to the screen, the capacitive touch sensors turn off, so you aren't making marks with your palm when you're actually drawing on the screen with the stylus. The screen is bright, with a wide angle of view from all sides, and an accelerometer makes sure that screen elements point up at all times.

The Tablet 2 comes with an Intel Atom Z2760 processor, 2GB of memory, and a 64GB of flash storage. When we first turned the Tablet 2 on, it came with 33.4 GB of 50GB free. This is a bit less than the "36.8 GB of 52.2GB free" reported by the Editors' Choice Dell Latitude 10. No doubt much of the used space is the recovery partition plus a selection of pre-installed apps. The Tablet 2 came with Lenovo Companion, Skitch Touch, Evernote Touch, Lenovo Support, a Lenovo Settings app, Accuweather, QuickSnip (a clipping/screenshot utility), Amazon Kindle, Skype, rara.com, Intel AppUp, Lenovo Cloud Storage (SugarSync), and Norton Studio (security). Lenovo also included their QuickLaunch app, which replaces the functions of the Windows 7 Start menu. It's not the most heinous use of space, but since Tablet 2's current options for storage are 64GB only, every bit of storage space is precious. You can of course add storage with the microSD slot. The Tablet 2's front webcam is 2MP and the rear is 8MP with a LED flash. The Tablet 2 has a one-year standard warranty.

Performance
Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 The Intel Atom Z2760 processor in the Tablet 2 ensures Windows 8 32-bit compatibility, so the tablet will work with all your enterprise apps and corporate network protocols. It also means that you can use the browser and plug-ins standardized at your business instead of being limited to Internet Explorer (as you would be on a Windows RT system).

However, while the Atom means that the Tablet 2 has 10-hour battery life (10 hours 11 minutes), it also means that it doesn't perform too well on our multimedia benchmark tests. The Tablet 2 was one of the slowest systems we've ever tested on our Handbrake test (13:27 vs. 1:28 on a Core i5 system like the Microsoft Surface Pro). The Tablet 2 also lagged Atom-powered rivals like the Dell Latitude 10 and Acer W510 on the Handbrake test. On day-to-day tasks, the Tablet 2 put in a passable 1,410 point score on PCMark 7. Basically, if you have a need for corporate information retrieval and media playback all day, the Tablet 2 is fine, but if you need to work on graphics creation on a deadline, you're better off with a more powerful system with an Intel Core processor.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 is a decent Windows 8 Slate tablet. It doesn't win any of the performance tests, but is competitive with its Atom-powered rivals. It's a simple work-based tablet that has a good set of ThinkPad accessories that make it a good fit if you're transitioning ThinkPad users to something a lot more portable. However, for the ultimate in battery life, other systems like the Editors' Choice Dell Latitude 10 and keyboard docking tablets like the Acer Iconia Tab W510 are better choices if battery life is paramount. And let's face it, you're looking at an Atom-based tablet because of its combination of Windows 8 Pro compatibility and phenomenal battery life, right?

Visa and Samsung ink worldwide NFC deal, practically guarantees payWave on your Galaxy S IV

Visa and Samsung ink worldwide NFC deal here comes the payWave bloatware

First, the good news. It appears that Visa and Samsung's Olympics trial went over so well, that it's expanding those mobile payment dreams to a global audience. Now, the rough news -- Visa has convinced Samsung to pre-load the payWave app onto every future Samsung smartphone with an NFC module. Granted, you'd be using that anyway for contactless payments... but only if you had a Visa card. At this point, it's practically a given that the impending Galaxy S IV will boast not only an NFC chip, but payWave integration from the factory.

The deal also gives banks the ability to load payment account information over-the-air to a secure chip embedded in Samsung devices (thanks, Mobile Provisioning Service), but neither company is coming clean on what devices in particular will be taking advantage. Unfortunately, this news may be even gloomier for non-Visa users -- it's unlikely Samsung's contract will allow it to announce similar deals with competing mobile payment services, but we suppose we'll see in time.

Tech leaders plan virtual push on immigration

WASHINGTON (AP) ? High-tech leaders including the former heads of AOL and Mozilla are organizing a "virtual march for immigration reform" aimed at pressuring lawmakers to enact sweeping changes to the nation's immigration laws.

The effort unveiled Monday is particularly focused on making it easier for the U.S. to attract highly educated immigrants and those aiming to work in high-tech fields.

Silicon Valley leaders and others have long complained of the difficulties of bringing high-tech workers to the U.S. and allowing them to stay once they're here, and immigration legislation taking shape on Capitol Hill is expected to address the issue.

The new effort, backed by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Partnership for a New American Economy, aims to collect supporters and organize a date this spring for them to flood lawmakers' offices via Twitter, Facebook, and other means.

"What we're essentially doing is having tech leaders use technology to influence the debate," said John Feinblatt, Bloomberg's chief policy adviser. "In the in the old days, people used to hire a lobbyist."

The possibilities of such an approach were illustrated last year when Congress dropped legislation to crack down on online piracy after a massive campaign by Internet services and users.

The new effort brings together an array of high-tech heavy hitters including Steve Case, co-founder of AOL and chief executive of Revolution; John Lilly, former chief executive of Mozilla and partner at Greylock Partners; venture capitalist Mike Maples; and Brad Feld, managing director of the Foundry Group.

"We've got to make the case that in today's economy the currency is talent, and we need the talent in this country if we want to continue to be the great economic leader that we are," Feinblatt said.

The group's priorities for emerging immigration legislation include more visas for high-tech workers; a new visa for entrepreneurs, something some other industrialized nations already offer; and permanent resident status for immigrants who graduate from U.S. universities with degrees in science, technology, engineering and math.

These are all measures supported by President Barack Obama and are likely to be embraced to some degree in legislation being written in the Senate by a bipartisan group of negotiators.

Current law limits the number of immigrants who can come to the U.S. to work for high-tech companies and provides no straightforward path for top-tier graduates to stay here. More so than other areas of the immigration debate, such as border security and a path to legalization for the 11 million illegal immigrants already here, boosting high-tech immigration tends to enjoy bipartisan support, although there've been disputes in Congress over how to accomplish the goal.

HBT: Dodgers have talked extension with Mattingly

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly is entering the final chapter of a three-year contract that he signed in 2010. So it?s time to start printing more pages.

According to beat writer Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, Dodgers officials have spoken to Mattingly recently ?about a new contract,? though there?s no hurry to get anything done this spring.

?We?ve talked to Don a lot about what he does and doesn?t want right now,? Dodgers chairman?Mark Walter said Saturday at the team?s spring training complex in Arizona. ?I think you might see something come up before the end of the year.?

Mattingly holds a 168-155 managerial record in his two seasons with the Dodgers. That?s all well and good, but the stakes are significantly higher now that the club boasts the largest payroll in the major leagues.

Mattingly does hold an option?for 2014, but the Dodgers don?t want to pick it up quite yet.

Common IV fluid associated with reduced likelihood of full recovery in patients with cardiac arrest

Feb. 19, 2013 ? Although an intravenous fluid that paramedics in Japan often give to patients in cardiac arrest before they reach hospital may help restore circulation, it may also be linked to reduced survival with minimal neurological or physical damage one month later, according to a study from Japan published in this week's PLOS Medicine.

In Japan, intravenous fluid loading with lactated Ringer's solution (a mixture of salts and sodium lactate) is included in resuscitation guidelines for patients who have a cardiac arrest out of hospital. In order to investigate outcomes associated with this practice, Japanese researchers, led by Akihito Hagihara from the Kyushu University Graduate School of Medicine, analysed national information from 2005 to 2009 on more than a half million patients experiencing a cardiac arrest out-of-hospital and then examined their subsequent health outcomes one month later.

The authors found that when other factors such as age, sex, and time taken for help to arrive were taken into account, the pre-hospital use of lactated Ringer's solution was linked to a slightly increased chance (1.2) of return of spontaneous circulation before arrival at hospital but with a decreased chance (0.7) of survival with minimal neurological or physical impairment one month later. However, among all patients, the pre-hospital use of lactated Ringer's solution had no effect on overall survival at one month.

Although these findings may have important clinical implications, the authors make clear that these results will need to be confirmed in other studies before changing clinical guidelines. Their study did not have information on the treatment that patients received once they reached hospital, which may have influenced the results.

The authors say: "We found that prehospital IV loading with lactated Ringer's solution was independently associated with a decreased likelihood of 1-month survival with minimal neurological or physical impairment."

They continue: "Prehospital IV loading with lactated Ringer's solution was associated with an increased likelihood of return of spontaneous circulation before hospital arrival, while 1-month survival varied depending on the analysis."

The authors add: "Our findings should be verified by studies that include data on in-hospital resuscitation."

They conclude: "Future studies will need to determine whether administration of fluids other than lactated Ringer's solution is associated with beneficial outcomes."

What the President's Path to Citizenship Looks Like

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Michael Jordan never played against LeBron James but that has not stopped the two from going one-on-one over how to determine greatness on the basketball court. Jordan, widely hailed as the best player of all-time and who turns 50 on Sunday, believes it is all about championship rings, while James, 28, thinks that view is a little too simplistic. The debate has been the chief talking point of reporters and players in the run-up to the National Basketball Association's (NBA) All-Star game in Houston on Sunday. ...

Masked intruders raid Greek gold mining company

SKOURIES, Greece (AP) ? About 40 masked attackers raided the facilities of a prospective gold mine in northern Greece overnight Sunday, setting machinery and offices alight, authorities said.

There has long been opposition to the prospect of a gold mine and processing plant being built at Skouries in the Halkidiki peninsula, with some residents objecting to what they say will be the destruction of the environment and of pristine forest in the area, leading to the loss of tourism and other local activities such as farming, the rearing of livestock and fishing.

The mining company, Hellas Gold, is 95 percent owned by Canadian mining company Eldorado Gold Inc. The Greek government has been eager for the foreign investment as it struggles through a deep financial crisis. But the dispute has led to frequent protests in the area, with tear gas and firebombs used and residents trading accusations with the company about heavy-handed reactions and the use of violence.

A police officer said employees told them the intruders tied two security guards together and doused them with gasoline, threatening to set them on fire. One of the guards was kicked and sought hospital treatment for bruises and respiratory problems, while the remaining ten guards employed by the company at the facility fled, said the officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media, said.

The attackers left the area on foot and placed logs on the approach road to delay firefighters, the officer said. Police believe the attackers used several getaway vehicles stationed some distance from the mine site, the officer said.

Police said they have detained 27 people for questioning early Sunday morning but all were subsequently released.

Mine's supporters say that 1,200 jobs have already been created in an area that is especially hard hit by long-term unemployment. Some 5,000 people also applied for an additional 200 jobs at the mine, said Giorgos Arvanitis, general secretary of the local miners' union.

"Who are they who come here and burn everything and threaten our lives?" Angelos Deliyovas, a mine employee told reporters Sunday. "We care for our livelihood and our lives. We have families and kids. The state should tell us what they are going to do about this."

"Tying employees with ropes and threatening (to burn) them, this is fascism. We will not let this pass by," says Arvanitis.

The Skouries project is the latest in a complex of mining facilities in the area. Hellas Gold holds mining licenses for an area covering 317 square kilometers (122 square miles) with proven and probable reserves of lead, zinc, silver, gold and copper.

Many see the foreign investment as vital to helping Greece emerge from its economic morass, where a quarter of the workforce unemployed and the economy heading into a sixth year of recession.

"Without the company, the game is over (for the local economy)," says Deliyovas. "Those who try to shut this project, they will find us on the other side."

Opponents also argue that unlike many other countries, the Greek state gets no royalties from mine concessions other than collect taxes and jobs. Concessions granted in 2004 for Stratoni, one of the Halkidiki mines that is currently operating and is near Skouries, are valid until 2026 and can be renewed twice for 25 years each time, free of charge.

Opponents say the new mine, which will consist of an open pit, tunnels beneath, and processing plant, will destroy the forest and contaminate groundwater. The company rejects these claims, saying it will refill and replant the open pit once the ore has been extracted, and that all necessary care is being taken not to pollute the environment.

"We (the employees) live here; we are the first ones who want to protect the environment," said Deliyovas.

Eldorado Gold did not immediately respond to requests for comment or details about the raid.

IIPM strategy of blocking web sites is backfiring | Firstpost

?Professor Arindam Chaudhuri, head of business school Indian Institute of Planning & Management (IIPM), has said that 73 URLs carrying content related to IIPM were blocked following an interim court order on a case filed by one of his companies,? Firstpost reported this morning.

On Friday, the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) ordered Internet Service Licensees to block 73 URLs carrying content which critiqued? IIPM.?MediaNama was the first to report on this.?Read more here.

?I am glad that the court has now ordered the removal of those links,? Chaudhuri said in a statement.

A

IIPM might begin to question the decision to go to the court in Gwalior.. Pic: www.arindamchaudhuri.com

He might not be as glad this morning, though, as newspapers have gone to town in reporting this development.

Mint front-paged the story with the headline: ?Govt orders IIPM-related URLs blocked.

The Economic Times carries the story on page 3, with the headline ?Govt blocks webpages criticising IIPM.?.

DNA carries the story on the front page as well, saying ?DoT wants IIPM ?virus? off internet?.

Mid-Day has ?DoT issues orders to block URLs with anti-IIPM content? as the headline, with the explicit subhead saying, ?Out of the 78 URLs that are ordered to be blocked, 73 have reports on UGC?s notice that declared the status of IIPM as unrecognised.?.

Incidentally, Chaudhuri is a regular columnist for Mid-Day.

This is just a sampling of the criticism that IIPM and prospective IIPM candidates will be exposed to on mainstream media. On the internet, IIPM is trending, for all the wrong reasons.? Also trending are UGC and URLs. It?s now, literally, thousands of social media users amplifying the morning?s stories, the original UGG notice and a list of all the banned URLs.

The worries do not end here. This morning, Union Minister of State for HRD, Shashi Tharoor, said this in response to a tweet from this writer. ?@shyamanuja?I have written to?@milinddeora?asking him to remove the DOT block on the UGC website.?@AnantRangaswami?@calamur.

What about the other URLs? ?@AnantRangaswami?@shyamanuja?Assume?@milinddeora?will look into those. Blocking a UGC site concerns my ministry,? Tharoor said.

With the clamour growing in mainstream and social media, and with two of India?s more tech-savvy ministers appearing to be concerned, IIPM might begin to question the decision to go to the court in Gwalior.

Before the court order, it would have been well-nigh impossible for anyone to find all the negative stories about IIPM easily. Now, thanks to the reaction to the DoT order, all the negative stories are in one place, at the click of a mouse.

Sony PlayStation Reportedly Will Stream Games To Console

The era of buying gaming discs could be a thing of the past with Sony. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the electronics manufacturer is planning on integrating technology into its new videogame console that will allow game to be streamed from the Internet. Said to be unveiled this Wednesday, this potential streaming service will be designed to use current PlayStation 3 titles and is expected to play new games stored on optical discs.

Streaming games online is becoming more popular in terms of usage. There are several companies providing this service, but for Sony, this is a new thing. The plans come after the company acquired Gaikai last year for $380 million.

Additionally, Sony is expected to have in its newest game console the ability for users to control their actions with ?higher fidelity cameras? that will work with its ?Move? motion-sensing technology and touch-sensing pads on new controllers.

The emergence of cloud-based gaming is something that industry executives believe will play a big part in the gaming industry in the next few years. Imagine being able to instantly download the latest Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto game right from the Internet instead of waiting in line. Or rather, think about how convenient it will be ?if you were able to receive game updates without needing to purchase another game.

Of course, as the Wall Street Journal notes, enabling a streaming service is not without its pitfalls. It cites the example of OnLive, a service that was sold in an attempt to avoid bankruptcy last year. However, as Sony is a larger company with deep pockets and a large portfolio of games, one would hope that it would have the necessary infrastructure to make it work for them.
